The Stolen Rainbow

I climbed the sky
and stepped into the heavens
to steal the rainbow
from the sky god’s palace

I hid inside the clouds
disguised as a wisp of cotton
to dismantle this
clumsy artefact
spanning the sky

After an afternoon drizzle,
I stealthily peeled off
each of the seven layers—
rolled them into divine scrolls
and dropped them into
the cosmic ocean that
flowed down to the earthly realm

I gathered the scrolls from
the shores of the Tigris
and embarked on a journey
crafting a collage from
the stolen tints
capturing the essence of
Ankara, Sofia, Zagreb,
and finally settling
at Navigli, Milano

As I contemplate resting
at the shore again,
the masterpiece seems
a misplaced riot of colours—
fit only for the sky
