Sleep Extends

It starts from head
like a veil covering
the brain

Eyelids begin to fall
as if in a gentle trance

Nose unbothered
by the smell around

Ears start to deafen
despite sound or silence

Tongue rests
beneath the teeth

Skin silently grows
unresponsive

As breathing slows,
the rest of the body
follows suit

Sleep arrives
unwelcomed
like an autumn breeze

Extending further—
the breathing
slows
to a gentle halt

Death—
not so hard
