Words Soon Forgotten

As the winter evening falls—
the lights go off
I cozily tuck myself
under a thick blanket

My thoughts start to wander
yet still within my reach—
they don’t wander off too far

I try to express my thoughts
and let them be felt—
not through the expressway
but through the alleyway

Words—
the only tool of expression
for my thoughts

Never valued for their true worth
and taken at face value—
they’re shed
like old clothes, and
unarchived from the mind

Words—
they are soon forgotten
so are the thoughts
